Located on Kings Road in Ashton-under-Lyne, Andy's Fish & Chips stands out as a quintessential British chippy, delighting locals and visitors alike with its classic yet expertly crafted fish and chips. Specializing in hearty, traditional fare, Andy’s is the go-to spot for those craving perfectly cooked fish, crispy and golden chips, and the ever-popular mushy peas.
From the moment you step up to the counter, the welcoming atmosphere—complete with the friendly banter of the staff—sets the tone for a truly satisfying dining experience. The batter on the fish is light and crisp, shattering delightfully with each bite to reveal moist, flaky cod beneath. It's clear this isn’t just any batter; it’s a finely tuned recipe that brings out the best textures and flavors. The chips are thick-cut and golden, delivering that ideal balance between a fluffy interior and a satisfyingly crunchy exterior.
Local favourites often spotlight not just the classic fish and chips, but also Andy's mushy peas and their rich curry sauce, both elevating the dish into a comforting feast. It's these well-loved staples that keep patrons coming back time and again. For something a little more distinctive, Andy’s also offers Lancashire’s regional pride—the rag pudding—which food enthusiasts like Ryan Davies rave about for its authentic taste and “perfect” preparation. And for those seeking a twist on tradition, the legendary Andy Double Cheese Burger with fried onions adds a satisfying, indulgent alternative to the menu.
Customers consistently praise the quality and freshness of the food, as well as the efficient service—even during busy times, the wait is considered well worth it. One customer notes a quick turnaround time of just five minutes, underscoring the care put into cooking each order fresh to maintain that golden crunch and tender bite. The value is clear, with a cod dinner running around £5.80, proving that you can indulge in quality without breaking the bank.
More than just a place to grab a quick meal, Andy's Fish & Chips embodies the warm charm of a community chippy with an exceptional culinary touch. Whether you're local to Tameside or coming from further afield—as some happy customers admit they do—this spot delivers consistent satisfaction and a genuine taste of northern England's best-loved comfort food. For anyone seeking a true fish and chips experience, Andy’s on Kings Road is not just a recommendation; it’s a destination.
